When people from overseas think about Australia they usually think Bondi Beach, kangaroos and BBQs! Which usually equates to the understanding that it's summer all year round here in Australia.
But Tasmania, apart from being the most 'visually' beautiful state in Australia, has a vastly different climate to mainland Australia.
Tasmania has a temperate maritime climate, which means as a rule, there are seldom vast extremes of temperature, though of course Australians from the Northern States would say the winters here are much colder.
When the early colonists settled in Tasmania during the 18th Century they described certain characteristics of the Tasmanian landscape and climate as being similar to their native England.
In Tasmania we have our own 'Launceston' and 'Perth' because of the similarities to their namesakes back in England and Scotland.
Our cooler and longer temperate winters make ideal conditions for growing all the spring bulbs, but especially tulips.
From now until the end of October there are Tulip Festivals all over Tasmania.
What a glorious sight to behold. We know Spring has finally sprung in Tassie when the tulips come out to play.
