Not more Reality TV, just kill me now!!!

The various television networks would have us believe that according to their 'polling' they continue to dish up reality tv because we the audience just love it and want more of it. Oh come on guys, who are you kidding?? Right now I envy my grandmother her knitting and sitting by the radio in the good old days listening to Winston Churchill giving a speech on the BBC! Is it just me or is anyone else out there just totally over cooking shows, reno shows, gardening makeover shows, stupid people thrown together in the one house shows, who wants to be famous shows (you know the ones I mean). And pleeeease don't get me started on the 'fly on the wall' B grade reality tv shows. What is this obsession with halfwit B grade would be famous people (with brains the size of fish) sharing every bland boring nano second of their lives; who gives a right royal toss!!! Shame on the global media to give more airtime to the coverage of a certain B grade reality tv stars wedding over the weekend than the plight of dying babies in Somalia. You know and I know that it has very little to do with ratings and mostly to do with the cost of producing these shows; they literally cost peanuts. The problem is that TV networks know something that Hitler and the Nazi's knew. Repeat the same message over and over again and eventually the masses will swallow it, or in this case eventually watch it. However its not all bad news; just like the Nazi's got what was coming to them, the television networks are in for a tough ride. I've been doing some 'polling' of my own. Guess
what my students tell me? I'm talking about the Generation 'Y' students I teach. They
consistently tell me that they don't really watch tv anymore. They're too busy social
networking to watch the old black box. This generation is so tech savvy they don't need tv anymore they can just download whatever they want whenever they want; legally or illegally. To quote one of my students, "there's loads better stuff on the web anyway Mrs...." And here's the sweetest irony of all. When I polled my teaching colleagues (make that mostly baby boomers) and I teach in a large private Senior Secondary College with over 200 teachers; they were singing the same tune. Baby Boomer teachers have nice disposable incomes and have recently discovered the joys of 'tablet' technology. Teachers love their tablets. They social network, they download their ebooks, they online shop, they blog, they read online newspapers. In a nutshell they're way too busy to watch boring reality tv....there's loads better stuff on the web anyway.
