If God loves my gay daughters with unconditional love how can you justify your hate?

On the 27th January 1982, I gave birth to my beautiful identical twin daughters Claire and Amy.

Individually and at different times of their lives they both 'came out'.

This was no suprise to me; a mother always knows these things.

In no way did my love change towards them; I felt not one ounce of revulsion or shame, not then, not ever. To this day my heart bursts with pride. They have achieved so much in their 30 years. They are beautiful human beings and every breathe they take makes this world a better place.

But in my country Australia, our government treats gay people as second class citizens. Gay marriage is not officially recognised by the 'State' in Australia. Our government is terrified of losing 'conservative' support, so they pander to the 'haters' of this world; those people who believe their religious beliefs give them permission to judge everyone else and to deny gay citizens the same rights as themselves.

My Judeo-Christian heritage has always taught me that simply put, 'God is love'. Jesus says nothing about homosexuality and the Jewish prophets are silent on Homosexuality. Certain believers tend to focus on 'difference' rather than focusing on what Jesus said - to love your neighbour as you love yourself.

I have four daughters, but only two of them have access to their basic human rights in Australia; to love who they want without condemnation and to marry who they want, fully sanctioned and legally recognized by the 'State'.

I will keep fighting and petitioning my State and Federal politicians until this 'State sanctioned discrimination' is removed. I will finish this post with the famous words of Thomas Jefferson:

"We hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal,
That they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable Rights, That among these are,
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness".

In dedication to my beautiful daughters Claire and Amy. Chin up my darlings we will win this fight!
